During the construction phase, the main activities, which will potentially result in the generation of waste, include site formation, demolition of infrastructure and construction of new buildings. The typical waste types associated with these activities include: excavated material from foundation works, construction waste from construction of new buildings, waste from renovation /modification works, chemical waste, and general refuse. |
Approximately 12,900 m3 of excavated material is to be generated and deposited appropriately at government public filling facilities (ie Public Filling Barging points on Hong Kong Island or Fill Banks in Tuen Mun or Tseung Kwan O).
Approximately 4,430 m3 ( 430 m3 from construction of new buildings and structures and 4,000 m3 from renovation and modification) of construction and demolition waste will be generated during the construction phase. About 3,540 m3 of the construction and demolition waste will be deposited in public fill, while the remaining 890m3 disposed at landfill.
About 130 kg/day of general refuse will be generated onsite and will be disposed at landfill. |

The following wastes are expected to be generated during the operation phase general refuse from staffs and visitors, food and beverage waste from café and restaurants, and chemical waste.
Approximately 9,250 kg/day of general reuse, form staff and visitors, is expected to be generated during the operation phase. With café and restaurants generating approximately 460 kg/day of food and beverage wastes. General refuse and food and beverage refuse will be disposed within Hong Kong’s existing waste infrastructure. |
Limited chemical waste (mainly waste lube oil and spent solvents from maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipments and audio/visual system) will arise from the operation activities at the CPSC. The storage, handling, transportation and disposal of chemical wastes will be in accordance with the requirements stated in the Waste Disposal (Chemical Waste) (General) Regulation and the Code of Practice on the Packaging, Labelling and Storage of Chemical Wastes.
