As informed by the Contractor, the contract has been substantially
completed on 31 October 2006 and the remaining marine works has yet commenced
in the reporting month.
8.2
The 1-hour and 24-hour TSP and noise monitoring was ceased due to the
completion of works. No air quality and noise monitoring was conducted in the
reporting month.
8.3
Marine water quality monitoring continued in the reporting month. A
total of thirteen monitoring sessions were conducted in which 57 exceedances
were recorded. All exceedances were considered not related to the Project.
Interim notification of exceedance was issued for each exceedance event.
8.4
Environmental site inspection was conducted in the reporting month.
Remedial measures were advised for those deficiencies observed for the
Contractor to follow-up.
8.5
The
construction phase landscape and visual audit had been ceased from 1 November
2006 due to the completion of works. No landscape and visual audit was
conducted in the reporting month.
8.6
No new environmental permit and licence was applied or obtained in the
reporting month.
8.7
No environmental complaint, notification of summons and prosecution was
received in the reporting month.
8.8
According to the environmental site inspections performed in the
reporting month, the following recommendations were provided:
Water Quality
· Provide, operate and maintain wastewater treatment systems regularly;
·
Reuse wastewater after proper treatment, especially for bore
piling and site investigation;
·
Provide sufficient wastewater treatment prior to discharge;
·
Proper maintenance of drainage system;
·
Regular inspect and clean up surface channels and
sedimentation tanks; and
·
Maintain low-lying works areas regularly.
Chemical and Waste Management
· Remove waste materials from the site to avoid accumulation regularly;
·
Provide sufficient maintenance for all the equipment to avoid
dripping of diesel;
·
Provide drip trays with sufficient capacity for diesel drums and
chemical containers;
·
Provide sufficient and adequate notices or warning signs on
site to alert site personnel on the waste and chemical disposal requirements;
·
Instigate vigilant staff patrol, if deemed necessary, to spot and
rectify problems immediately;
·
Properly maintain the chemical waste storage
area
·
Place tarpaulin sheeting beneath the replaced equipment
parts to avoid seepage of oil on bare ground; and
·
Remove stagnant water ponds/Apply pesticides to prevent mosquito
breeding.
