3.0       Works undertaken in June – December 2003

 

3.1               Construction Works undertaken

 

The site area of this project is shown in Figure 1.

 

A summary of works undertaken in June – December 2003 were:

·         Dredging of the jetty and catwalk foundation with one hopper dredger and one grab dredger. The disposal area was Sha Chau;

·         Fabrication of precast concrete blocks a t Zhong Shan casting yard;

·         Rock-filling for jetty foundation.

·         Deposition of grade 700 rockfill for jetty foundation;

·         Placing of leveling stones;

·         Setting of precast concrete blocks and berm blocks for jetty;

·         Setting of precast concrete pipes at catwalk;

·         Backfilling of the jetty and the catwalk;

·         Concreting of the pier’s coping;

·         Dredging of the approach channel;

·         Excavation of the footpath’s foundation;

·         Setting of precast concrete footings of the footpath;

·         Placing of sub-base at jetty and catwaik;

·         Setting of precast concrete pavings, precast footpath’s footings and slabs;

·         Demolition of old jetty;

·         In-situ concreting of staircase;

·         Copings and pavings;

·         Construction of pillar boxes;

·         Marine fitting and E&M installation;

·         Placing of armour rock along catwalk;

·         E&M installation inside pillar boxes;

·         Installation of handrailings at the pier and catwalk;

·         Cable ducting along footpath;

·         Demolition of the old jetty and the imprinted concrete surfacing at the pier and catwalk.

 

 

The implementation of the corresponding mitigation measures is summarized in Table 3.1.

General construction works	·    Remove the sand/rubbish accumulated in the site regularly; ·    Provide good site practice (e.g. selection of quieter plant and working methods and reduction in number of plant operating in critical areas close to Dolphins’ habitats) to limit noise emissions at source; ·    Remove the construction waste accumulated inside or outside the site regularly; ·    Keep good waste management.
Dredging	·    A tightly closed grab was used to restrict the loss of sediment. ·    Silt curtain was used to enclose the grab; ·    Environmental impact monitoring was undertaken.

 

 

3.2               EM&A Works undertaken

 

The marine water quality monitoring, ecology monitoring and waste management were undertaken as scheduled and the results are reported in details in the monthly EM&A reports. Post-project monitoring was carried out between 28 November and 27 December 2003.
