The TPSTW Stage V project comprises the expansion and modification of the existing sewage treatment works to increase its capacity from the present design flow of 88,000 m3/day to 130,000 m3/day. The key elements of the works include the following:
(a) Additional inlet and preliminary treatment works;
(b) Additional primary clarifiers;
(c) New bioreactors and modification of existing ones;
(d) Reconstruction of existing final clarifiers and reconstruction of existing ones;
(e) Disinfection facilities;
(f) Additional sludge treatment facilities; and
(g) Ancillary works to existing treatment facilities.
A location plan and a general layout plan of the Project are shown in Figures 1 and 2 respectively.
The Project will be implemented in two phases. The design capacities of the Phase 1 and the Phase 2 works are 100,000 m3/d and 130,000 m3/d respectively. Construction of the Phase 1 works is scheduled to commence in April 2005 for completion in 2009 whilst the Phase 2 works, being subject to actual flow build-up, is scheduled to commission before 2016.
Disinfection will be achieved by ultra-violet irradiation. It is to be noted that consideration may be given to the use of chlorination for STSTW and TPSTW. This scenario, should it transpires, is to be considered as part of any necessary environmental studies for the chlorination.
