7.                  CULTURAL HERITAGE

7.1              Introduction

7.1.1        Following the findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), a condition survey will be required for a historical grave near Ma On Kong (KT13-02-02) before and during construction phase, as the proposed bypass culvert under KT13 project is located at very close distance from this grave. The purpose of the condition survey is to preserve the integrity of the grave’s structure. The following sections present the requirements for the condition survey before and during the construction phase.

7.2              Staffing

7.2.1        The Contractor are required to employ qualified archaeologist to undertake the condition surveys before and during construction phase.

7.3              Methodology and Approach

7.3.1        Methodology for the monitoring and evaluation of structure integrity in the condition survey to be carried out before and during construction phase shall be proposed by a qualified archaeologist and approved by the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), before commencement of each corresponding survey. The data obtained during pre-construction survey shall be used as baseline information for reference during construction phase survey.

7.4              Location of Structure to be monitored

7.4.1        The grave (KT13-02-02) requiring condition survey before and during the construction of KT13 is a Qing Dynasty grave, located at less than 15 m from the proposed works for bypass culvert. Figure 7.1 shows the location of this grave.

7.5              Action and Limit Levels

7.5.1        The following action and limit levels in Table 7.1 shall be adopted when undertaking the condition survey during construction phase.
