Working Group Members Visit Priority Sites for Refuse Accumulation in Southern District and Lamma Island

On 9 September 2015, the Chairman of the Working Group, Ms Anissa Wong; and representatives of the Environmental Protection Department, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and Marine Department inspected some of the locations which require priority action to address the marine refuse problem, such as Ap Lei Pai in the Southern District, and Tai Wan To, Shek Pai Wan and Sok Kwu Wan of Lamma Island, to examine the improvement made. According to the Marine Refuse Study report published in April 2015, refuse tends to accumulate in some coastal areas under the influence of wind and water currents, and 27 priority sites including the above 4 locations are more prone to refuse accumulation and hence short-listed for enhanced improvement measures. Since April 2015, cleansing at these locations by FEHD and MD has been enhanced to improve their cleanliness.
