Environmental Engineering Graduates
Entry Requirements: Applicants should have/ be –
(a) a relevant degree from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent, obtained in 2024 or after, or other non-degree qualification acceptable to the relevant professional institutions obtained in October 2023 or after, including a degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or a qualification that satisfies the academic requirements for corporate membership in the environmental discipline of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and for admission into the HKIE Training Scheme “A” in the environmental discipline; and
(b) a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of engagement unless specified otherwise.
Notes:
(i) The vacancies would be filled in September 2025 tentatively.
(ii) Applicants who have obtained a relevant degree/ qualification before the date mentioned in (a) of the “Entry Requirements” and are pursuing or have just obtained another degree in 2024 or after on a related subject on full-time basis may also be considered, provided that the break between completion of the first relevant degree/ qualification and commencement of the related degree is not more than 18 months. If an applicant has pursued more than one related degree, the aggregate period of break between the degrees should not be more than 18 months also.
(iii) Applicants sitting their final examinations, or the final part(s) of relevant examinations of professional institutions in the summer of 2025 may also apply. If selected, their engagement will be subject to their acquisition of the requisite academic qualification not later than 31 August 2025.
(iv) Applicants who are receiving or have ever received training under the Training Scheme “A” of the HKIE will not be considered. Successful applicants will be required to make a declaration to that effect.
Duties: Successful candidates will receive practical training under professional guidance meeting the training requirements of the HKIE.
Terms of Appointments: The training vacancies are temporary posts. Graduate trainees are not civil servants and are not engaged on civil service terms and conditions. The training period is three years. On satisfactory completion of the training, suitable engineering graduate trainees will be offered further engagement for a period of 12 months. There is no guarantee for further engagement in the Government after completion of the above training/ post-training engagement.
Training Honorarium: The current honorarium on entry is $24,800 per month. The above amount of honorarium and the terms of engagement are subject to changes at the time the offer of engagement is made. Graduate trainees are not civil servants and their training honoraria are independent from the civil service pay.
How to Apply: Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). The new version of application form for Government jobs G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) has been in use with effect from 26 July 2023. Candidates who apply for Government jobs advertised on or after 26 July 2023 should use the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023). If candidates submit the old version form (G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)), they will be required to fill in the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request. If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further. Online application is not accepted. Applications submitted in person or by post should reach the Enquiry Address on or before the closing date for application. Please specify the position being applied for on the envelope. To avoid delay or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will have to bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage. Applications which are late (postmark date will be taken), incomplete/ without the relevant supporting documents as required or submitted by fax/ email may not be considered. Applicants are encouraged to provide their email address on the application form. The application form should be accompanied by (a) a supplementary letter giving a brief account of past relevant training/ experience and course projects; (b) a copy each of all official transcripts showing the results of all examinations taken at universities or other examinations leading to the award of a qualification recognised by the relevant professional institution; (c) a copy of the degree certificate if acquired; (d) a list of subjects, and their respective weighting, studied in the final year of the degree course (only required for applicants who are studying in the final year of their degree courses); and (e) a copy of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, certificate(s) of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination and/ or other public English language examinations (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, GCE, GCSE, HKSARG Common Recruitment Examination, etc.) showing the results achieved in English language in such examinations.
General Notes: (i) Copies of documents mentioned in (b), (c) and (d) of “How to Apply” may be passed to the relevant professional institution for the purpose of confirming whether or not the qualification satisfies the academic requirements for corporate membership/ admission into the professional examination/ training scheme of the institution concerned. (ii) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/ she will be invited to attend the selection interview/ written examination without being subject to further shortlisting. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. (v) Interviews are tentatively scheduled to be conducted in Hong Kong during the period from February to May 2025. Applicants should make themselves available for the interview during that period. The interview schedule is subject to change at the discretion of the Government without prior notification to applicants. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.
