Idling Vehicle Public Consultation
A Proposal to Ban Idling Vehicles with Running Engines
The five-month public consultation on a proposal to ban idling vehicles with running engine ended on 31 March 2008.
During the consultation period, we received around 1500 submissions. We also held consultation meetings with different stakeholders, including the Panel on Environmental Affairs of the Legislative Council, 18 District Councils, NT Heung Yee Kuk, the transport trades, professional bodies and vehicle suppliers.
In general, the majority of views supported introducing a statutory ban on idling vehicles. We will take into consideration all the views collected and formulate a widely-supported regulatory framework.
