Environmental Achievements through EIA
- Much improved project designs and better environmental performance through :
- 350,000 people in urban areas to be relieved from aircraft noise after the Kai Tak airport is relocated ;
- 2.7km of noise barriers and 530m of noise enclosures installed on the Lantau Airport Railway ;
- a resilient track-mounted system design for Lantau Airport Railway to minimise noise ;
- 900m noise barriers installed on Route 3;
- a colony of the rare Romer's tree frog rescued from Chek Lap Kok;
- natural coastline to the west of Tung Chung and 2km of natural coast line along the eastern shore of Chek Lap Kok island retained;
- a total of 2.2km of noise barriers and earth bunds in Tung Chung Town Centre;
- a 150m wide land -use buffer between West Kowloon Expressway and the existing residential buildings in West Kowloon ; and
- environmental protection measures and environmental monitoring and audit requirements incorporated into construction contracts and project implementation schemes.
