Minimization of Water Quality Impact
Computer modelling has been used to predict the effects of the physical reclamation on the nearby water bodies and concluded there would be minimal impact on the regional water quality and local disturbance to the water bodies would be limited to within 3 km of the reclamation for the airport platform. To avoid local siltation, a channel between the reclaimed airport platform and North Lantau was adopted as a mitigation measures to maintain tidal flows and water speeds in East Tung Chung Bay.
