Rural Planning and Improvement Strategy - Minor Projects Environmental Guidance Note

3. Guidances on Environmental consideration of RPIS Minor Projects

Storm Drainage Works

3.21 Storm drainage system should be properly designed so as to minimise potential water quality impacts during operation. For example, installation of sand/silt trap, grease/oil trap may be useful. For unsewered villages, some sullage has historically been discharged to the surface drains. Any new storm drainage systems serving these unsewered areas should be carefully designed to ensure that, as far as is practicable, any existing sullage discharges to surface would be intercepted and diverted away from sensitive receivers such as natural streams.

3.22 Storm drain outfall should be designed to locate outside enclosed or semi-enclosed embayment, and at least 100m away from water sensitive receivers (at least 200m from Fish Culture Zone).
