Water - Demonstration Scheme on Reclaimed Water Uses in the North District
While reclaiming water from sewage treatment works for the community's uses has been practised in some advanced countries for many years, Hong Kong has very little such experience so far.
In view of this, the pioneer pilot reclaimed water scheme of Hong Kong launched under the current TWM was commissioned at Ngong Ping in March 2006. It takes advantage of the treated effluent of the first local tertiary sewage treatment plant with effluent reuse for use in toilet flushing, irrigation and fish pond.
To collect more relevant data and experience, including how to polish the treated effluent from existing secondary sewage treatment works up to a level suitable for reclaimed uses, the HKSAR Government has chosen to add advanced reclaimed water treatment facility at the Shek Wu Hui STW for demonstration purpose.
