Glass Container Recycling Charter
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has launched the “Glass Container Recycling Charter” (the “Charter”) and invites all interested parties in the community to become our Partners to participate actively in and jointly promote glass container recycling.
Objectives
The objectives of the Charter are to –
- Raise public awareness on glass container recycling and drive behavioural change towards practising source separation and clean recycling of waste glass containers so as to cultivate good recycling habit;
- Promote participation and increase recycling of waste glass containers progressively to achieve the overall recovery target of 50,000 tonnes a year, which is about half of their amount generated; and
- Facilitate different sectors in the community to actively participate in glass container recycling.
How to become our Partner
Any interested organization/company may sign up the Charter to become our Partner. In participating the Charter, the Participant is committed to –
- Practising source separation and clean recycling of waste glass containers;
- Making suitable arrangement and engaging the free services of the Government-appointed Glass Management Contractors (or operators of the GREEN@COMMUNITY) for collection of the separated waste glass containers for proper recycling and treatment; and
- Supporting the Charter and related activities.
Benefits of the Participants
The Participants will be provided with a Charter certificate and a Charter sticker label for display on their premises as recognition of their commitment and effort taken in glass container recycling, The Participants may also download publicity materials for use in promoting glass container recycling. The list of Partners is also available on the EPD website for reference of the public.

Invitation

Commitment
By signing the Charter, the signee understands and agrees that –
- Waste glass containers are chemically inert and stable, which can hardly decompose and biodegrade thus occupying landfills permanently and depleting valuable landfill space.
- Participation in glass container recycling can help ease the burden on the landfills and turn waste glass containers into reusable resources which can contribute to the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
- We can play a useful part to reduce waste at source, support clean recycling of glass containers for the benefit of our community and contribute to achieving progressively overall recovery target of 50,000 tonnes of waste glass containers a year, which is about half of their amount generated.
In order to contribute to supporting glass container recycling in the community, the signee commits to –
- Practising source separation and clean recycling of waste glass containers;
- Making suitable arrangement and engaging the free services of the Government appointed Glass Management Contractors (or operators of the GREEN@COMMUNITY) for collection of the separated waste glass containers for proper recycling and treatment; and
- Supporting the Charter and related activities.
