Water Quality of Beaches at Tsuen Wan

Since 2010, seven closed beaches in Tsuen Wan, namely Anglers’, Approach, Casam, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan, Lido and Ting Kau Beaches, have shown marked improvement in water quality and meet the standard for bathing, according to the water quality monitoring tests carried out during the bathing season (March to October). The Water Quality Objective (WQO) for bathing beaches set under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance states that the level of E. coli should not exceed 180 counts per 100 mL, calculated as the geometric mean for all samples collected from March to October. As the water quality of these beaches is suitable for swimming, four beaches, namely Lido, Casam, Approach and Hoi Mei Wan, are reopened on 15 June 2011 with lifeguard services and other beach facilities provided by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The remaining three beaches in the district, namely, Anglers’ Beach, Gemini Beaches and Ting Kau Beach, will be reopened in 2013–14 after the improvement works of the beach facilities are completed.
