With the purpose to promote environmental awareness among catering and entertainment businesses, property management companies and residents in Wan Chai, the Wan Chai District Council, the EPD and the Wan Chai District Office have jointly organised a green seminar on 26 January 2002. The seminar was held between 2 to 5 pm at Room 301 of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, whilst the Opening Ceremony took place at 2:30 pm.
The seminar aims to enhance communication and partnership among the trade and relevant parties, so as to combat environmental problems arising from the catering and entertainment businesses in the district in a more effective way. The seminar, on the other hand, introduced the latest environmental technology to operators of these businesses. Apart from the seminar, environmental games, drama and information panels and pollution prevention models were set up to disseminate environmental messages to the participants.
Representatives from the Hong Kong Productivity Council were the guest speakers of the seminar. Their presentation covered common pollution issues arising from restaurants and entertainment premises, such as cooking fume emission, noise nuisance and wastewater discharge, as well as advice on pollution prevention measures.
