Nixon Cleaning Company Limited, a subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, has been awarded the certification of an integrated management system to the international standards of ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 in March 2001. The company is pleased to announce to be the first company to attain all the three standards certifications in the cleaning industry in Hong Kong.
Through the integrated management system, our company is committed to meet the requirements and expectations of our customers, continuously improve ourselves towards protection of the environment, and to provide safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients and also the public.
With ISO 14001 certification, our company has established an environmental management system to protect the environment and conserve resources for future generations. Since the implementation of ISO 14001, we have designed procedures and work instructions to reduce the environmental impacts arising from our operations. We have also implemented several environmental programs to conserve energy and resources, prevent pollution and reduce wastes.
In Hong Kong plastics represent more than 20% of our daily solid wastes, and they consume a lot of valuable spaces of our landfills. In view of this, one of our environmental programs is to supply the totally degradable garbage bags. These totally degradable garbage bags would relieve the plastic pollution problems, as they can degrade completely when subjected to sunlight, heat or mechanical stress within a pre-determined period of time. This can save hectares of valuable landfill spaces, and as a result extend the lifespan of our landfills. We therefore convince our clients to use these environmentally friendly plastic products.
Launching the environmental programs, our company will achieve its environmental goals and objectives. Through training and workshops in ISO 14001, our employees are more aware of the essence of environmental protection in their daily work. Also we urge our suppliers and contractors to be more environmentally conscious towards their products and services.
