    With the funding support granted by the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) Committee in the sum of $19.84 million for a programme ‘Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to Move Towards A Green Organization’, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) has become the ECF’s first NGO Green partner since 2009. TWGHs is committed to

  • Pursuing a total environmental concept in operating its medical, education and community services;
  • Becoming a leader among NGOs in environmental consciousness and conservation;
  • Incorporating environmental protection into its corporate culture and communicate the Group’s environmental policy to staff, students, services recipients and business partners; and
  • Promoting environmentally friendly behaviour in Hong Kong.

   Under the 7 Green strategies in its environmental policy namely Green governance, Green education, Green procurement, go Green on energy, conservation of resources, pollution reduction and Green building, a series of Green initiatives have been developed and implemented within the organization.

     Our green projects include installation of efficient equipment, green roofs, renewable energy system, waste source separation, smoke reduction system for temples and funeral parlours, promotion of eco-coffin & eco-incense and conducting energy-cum-carbon audits at various services centres. Apart from the above works projects, numerous Green education, publicity and communication programmes have been launched to raise the awareness of staff, students, services recipients and the public on environmental protection.

     The Group’s administration headquarters has been awarded the ISO 14001 Certificate in 2010. Concerted efforts have been sustained to reduce further the consumption of resources, emission of carbon dioxide and waste generated from the daily operation of the building. Most importantly, the ISO14001 Standards upheld in the administration headquarters have been extended to rental properties and services centres of the Group as part of the corporate governance. It is hoped that more and more NGOs organizations will join us to move towards Green organizations in the years ahead.
