Concern for the Environment
At its management initiative, Hong Kong Note Printing Limited (HKNPL) pursued and was awarded the ISO 14001 certificate in June 2002. Concern for the environment is an integral part of our business goals and objectives.
Endorsed by the senior management, the statement of Environment Policy is understood, implemented and maintained at all levels of the HKNPL. In brief, we are committed to the principle of environmental protection. In order to minimize the environmental impact concerning its activities and services, HKNPL will work towards achieving a set of environmental policies e.g. continual improvement of environmental performance, environmental impact assessment, energy conservation, education to staff etc.
Enormous benefits have been derived from the exercise. For instance, a 16 % year-on-year saving of car fuel consumption was recorded in 2003. Water consumption was reduced by about 40% after introduction of a recycled waste water treatment system in 2002. More importantly, the awareness of staff in resources conservation and concern for the environment have enhanced. They have indeed put forward excellent ideas and suggestions on environmental friendliness at work.
The certification process has never been an easy-going one but we all enjoyed the experience throughout. We do earnestly hope that more organizations will show their concern for the environment by joining the ISO 14001 family.
