Government Laboratory - The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Air Chemistry Section, Waste Chemistry Section and Water Chemistry Section within Analytical and Advisory Services Division)
In support of green management and to show our commitment to safeguard the environment, Government Laboratory has established an environmental management system (EMS) in Analytical and Advisory Services Division of the Laboratory in late 1998. The system allows environmental matters be dealt with in an effective and systematic manner. Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency has certified that the EMS implemented in Environmental Chemistry Sections of the Division complies with the requirements of ISO14001 standard. With the system in place, the Division achieved and demonstrated its environmental performance through setting environmentally related objectives and targets, developing program initiatives and operational procedures to attain continual improvement on the EMS functioning and environmental performance. Given below are some of the environmental targets achieved by the Division through launching environmental programmes under the system.
- Discontinued use of Freon 113
- Reduction in petroleum ether consumption by 60%
- Reduction in cyanide generation by 15%
- Reduction in acid waste (other than nitric acid) generation by 18%
