Towngas has always been commited to protecting the environment and it was also clearly stated in our company mission. The main reason for our obtaining the ISO 14001 certification was to have an independent assessment of our operating systems and gain international recognition of attainment of best practice and integrity.
During the certification process, all the workforce at Tai Po Plant was involved. This has greatly promoted their awareness towards environmental protection in their daily operation. Morale and teamwork were further improved as everyone was working towards a common goal of achieving certification before the new millennium. We had also received support and encouragement from our many business partners and suppliers when they had received our Environmental Policy and Guidance Notes (on environmental practice).
During the aspects identification stage we were able to identify many areas for improvement and took the opportunity to review and revise our currentwork instructions. For example, we were able to save 60,000 cubic metres of water per year in one of the identified initiatives.
In conclusion, in obtaining the ISO 14001 certification, Towngas has demonstrated its commitment to improving its operation by increasing the awareness of the need to constantly improve energy and material efficiency and environmental performance.
