Ambient Air
The EPD has put in place a regular monitoring programme to measure the levels of PCBs and dioxins/furans in local ambient air at two general urban locations in Hong Kong since mid-1997. The 24-hour ambient air samples are collected every month at the Tsuen Wan and the Central & Western Stations and analyzed for PCBs and dioxins/furans to provide the annual and seasonal trends of their presence in the atmosphere. Other POPs have also been measured on ad hoc basis. In general, the levels of PCB and dioxins fell at the lower end of the range of ambient air concentrations reported for other urban locations around the world.
