21 & 30.07.2010 Briefing on the Newly Listed Industrial Chemicals and Pesticides under the Stockholm Convention and the Proposed Amendment of Hazardous Chemicals Control Ordinance (Cap. 595)
The Fourth Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention, held in May 2009, decided to add 9 new chemicals to the Convention, including 5 industrial chemicals and 4 pesticides. The Environmental Protection Department considered the inclusion of the above mentioned 5 non-pesticide industrial chemicals into the Hazardous Chemicals Control Ordinance(Text Alternative) (HCCO) (Cap. 595) as a follow-up action for the implementation of the Convention in Hong Kong.
To facilitate a better understanding of the latest development of the Convention, in particular the implications to the trades of the proposed amendment of the Schedules of the HCCO (Cap. 595), the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) organised two briefing sessions with identical contents on 21 Jul 2010 and 30 Jul 2010.
