4. Is the Stockholm Convention applicable to the HKSAR?
The People's Republic of China (PRC) signed the Stockholm Convention (the Convention) on May 23, 2001 and ratified the Convention on August 13, 2004. The Convention became effective to the PRC, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), on November 11, 2004.
Annexes of the Convention was amended in 2009 and 2011 to list 10 new POPs. The amendments have entered into force in PRC (including HKSAR) since 26 March 2014.
At the meeting in 2013, the Conference of Parties to the Convention adopted an amendment to list one new POP in the Annex of the Convention. The amendment has entered into force in PRC (including HKSAR) since 26 December 2016.
At the meetings in 2015 and 2017, the Conference of Parties to the Convention adopted the amendments to list five POPs in the Annexes of the Convention. The amendment has entered into force in PRC (including HKSAR) since 6 June 2023.
