Persistent Organic Pollutants

Reduction of Dioxin/Furan Emissions to the Atmosphere

The 2020 POPs emission inventory revealed that public utilities, transportations, and natural causes were the main contributors to the annual atmospheric dioxin/furan emissions. Fossil fuel fired power plants, marine vessels and motor vehicles were identified as the major local air dioxin/furan emission sources. Efforts are therefore directed at reducing emissions from these sources as a priority. Various measures to reduce emissions of dioxins/furans are being pursued as part of the HKSARG’s environmental portfolio in accordance with the established timetable.
