Details of the Competition :
1. | Aim | |||||||||||
- To set up organic farms and to carry out composting in school campus - To encourage students' participation in waste reduction activities and organic planting - To arouse the awareness of teachers and students on the environmental issues related to farming, and to promote organic farms in the community |

Competition Regulations | |||||||||||
2.1 | All plants must be planted by organic method | |||||||||||
2.2 | Each school shall enter the competition as a single unit. The competition will be divided into the Primary School Group and the Secondary School Group | |||||||||||
2.3 | Participating schools may compete for different prizes at their discretion. | |||||||||||
2.4 | Participating schools shall encourage teaching staff, students and their parents to participate in the whole course of the competition, and set up organic farms in the school campus. | |||||||||||
2.5 | Parts that make up the farms must be movable. Teachers and students have to set up their farms at a designated lot of 3 metres x 2 metres on the Soccer Pitch of the Victoria Park from 29 April to 4 May 2004 for assessment and public display. | |||||||||||
2.6 | Participating schools shall make use of waste materials to set up their farms and to make tools and containers, and they must carry out composting. | |||||||||||
2.7 | Participating schools are encouraged to plant edible plants such as vegetables and herbs. | |||||||||||
2.8 | An allowance of HK$800 will be given to each participating school for purchase of seeds and device and for setting up the farm at the Victoria Park. | |||||||||||
3. | Competition Programme | |||||||||||

||||||||||||
3.1 | Work flow of participating schools: | |||||||||||
i. | Submit application. | |||||||||||
ii. | Teachers participate in the workshop on organic farms. | |||||||||||
iii. | Organize education activities and seminars for students to acquaint them with the advantages of organic planting and the importance of waste reduction. | |||||||||||
iv. | Identify suitable sites in the school campus for composting and guide the students to collect composting materials at home or in the community. | |||||||||||
v. | Formulate plans for the setting up of organic farms with the participation of teachers and students of the school. | |||||||||||
vi. | Purchase suitable seeds for planting according to the design of the organic farm. | |||||||||||
vii. | Organize activities to guide students in using waste materials to make planting pots and insect prevention installation. | |||||||||||
viii. | Distribute seeds and relevant materials to students for planting and taking care of the plants. | |||||||||||
ix. | Monitor the growth of the plants. | |||||||||||
x. | Amend the planting plan with reference to the growth of the plants. | |||||||||||
xi. | Collect pot plants from students and practice farm setting in the school campus. | |||||||||||
xii. | Set up farms at the Victoria Park from 29-30 April 2004. | |||||||||||
xiii. | Exchange knowledge gain and experience with students after the competition. | |||||||||||

4. | Arrangement on Prizes Prizes: Farms entering the competition will be divided into two groups. |

4.1 | Best Organic Farm in the City Award: Champion, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up for each of the Primary School Group and the Secondary School Group. | |||||||||||
Assessment will be made according to the following criteria: | ||||||||||||
i. | Composting. | |||||||||||
ii. | The extent of use of waste materials in farm design. | |||||||||||
iii. | The practice of organic planting. | |||||||||||
iv. | The growth of the plants. | |||||||||||
v. | The design and appearance of the organic farm. | |||||||||||
4.2 | Ten Special Prizes will be awarded to participating schools in each Group. Special Prizes are: | |||||||||||
