Convicted pollution cases in December
A total of 154
convictions were recorded in court in December for breaching
anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection
Department.
Of these cases,
65 were convictions made under the Water Pollution Control
Ordinance, 17 under the Noise Control Ordinance, 22 under
the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 46 under the Waste Disposal
Ordinance and one under the Ozone Layer Protection Ordinance.
The fines ranged
from $100 to $140,000.
Chevalier (Construction)
Company Limited was fined $140,000 last month for causing
the use of powered mechanical equipment without a valid construction
noise permit.
The owner of a
fastfood shop was punished by court to perform 50 hours of
community service for committing an offence under the Water
Pollution Control Ordinance.
