convicted pollution cases in May
A
total of 142 convictions were recorded in court in May for
breaching anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental
Protection Department.
Among
them, 23 were convictions made under the Water Pollution Control
Ordinance, 30 under the Noise Control Ordinance, 52 under
the Air Pollution Control Ordinance and 37 under the Waste
Disposal Ordinance.
The
heaviest fine handed down for such convictions in the month
was $60,000. A company was fined $60,000 twice during the
month for violating the Noise Control Ordinance while another
company was also fined the same amount for violating the Water
Pollution Control Ordinance.
A
man was sentenced to one week's imprisonment, suspended for
36 months, for discharging waste and polluting matters into
the Deep Bay Water Control Zone.
