convicted pollution cases in August
A total of 157
convictions were recorded in August for breaching anti-pollution
legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.
Among them, 45
were convictions made under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance,
39 under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, 36 under the Noise
Control Ordinance, 36 under Air Pollution Control Ordinance
and one under the Ozone Layer Protection Ordinance.
The heaviest fine
was $150,000.
A construction
company was fined $150,000 last month for using powered mechanical
equipment without a valid construction noise permit.
