Tai
Po village sewerage project gazetted
The Chief
Executive-in-Council has approved a village sewerage project
for Kau Shi Wai, Tin Sam, San Wai Tsai and Chuk Hang in Tai
Po to improve the water quality of Tolo Harbour.
Details
of the project were published in the Government Gazette today
(December 8).
The Executive
Council decided that the project should be implemented according
to the original scheme gazetted in February 1999 and the amendment
scheme gazetted in January 2000 with modifications to address
the concerns of two objections.
The project
comprises the laying of village sewers for Kau Shi Wai, Tin
Sam, San Wai Tsai and Chuk Hang in Tai Po.
"They
will collect sewage from these unsewered areas and effectively
reduce the pollutants currently disposed of through septic
tanks or directly to Tolo Harbour," a spokesman for the Environmental
Protection Department said.
"Modifications
involve the deletion of two sections of proposed sewer at
Kau Shi Wai and Tin Sam, and the revision of limit of works
areas at Kau Shi Wai."
Appropriate
mitigation measures recommended in the environmental impact
assessment of the project will be implemented, the spokesman
noted.
"Works
are expected to commence in September 2001 and will take approximately
24 months to complete.
"Road
works in connection with the project have also been approved
by the Chief Executive-in-Council," he added.
Details
of the modifications, in both English and Chinese, will be
put up at prominent positions in the works area.
