100
convicted pollution cases in May
A total
of 100 convictions were recorded in May for breaching anti-pollution
legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.
Among
them, 34 were convictions made under the Noise Control Ordinance,
32 under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 22 under the
Waste Disposal Ordinance and 12 under the Water Pollution
Control Ordinance.
The heaviest
fine in May was $100,000.
A company
was fined $100,000 for using powered mechanical equipment
without a valid construction noise permit.
