Drivers
urged to wait green
The Director
of Environmental Protection, Mr Rob Law, today (October 5)
urged drivers to turn off idling engines.
Mr Law
said switching off idling engines could help improve air quality,
save fuel and money, and lengthen the life of vehicles.
He made
the remarks during an activity to publicise the wait green
message.
Together
with the Deputy Secretary for the Environment and Food, Mr
Thomas Chow, Mr Law distributed the "Wait Green" labels and
the guidelines on switching off idling engines to drivers
in Hung Hom.
Some
100 student environmental protection ambassadors and staff
of the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) joined the
activity and distributed the labels and the guidelines in
Hung Hom and Tsim Sha Tsui.
Jointly
organised by the EPD and the ECC, the activity was part of
the on-going publicity efforts of the "Wait Green - Engine
Off" Campaign.
In September,
the EPD and the Transport Department issued guidelines on
switching off idling engines for different types of vehicles.
Drivers
are urged to follow these guidelines and wherever practicable
switch off idling engines.
