64
convicted pollution cases in December
A total
of 64 convictions were recorded last December for breaching
anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection
Department.
Among them, 24 were convictions made under the Waste Disposal
Ordinance, 14 under the Noise Control Ordinance, 13 under
the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, seven under the Water
Pollution Control Ordinance, and six under the Dumping At
Sea Ordinance.
The heaviest
fine was $50,000.
A company
was fined $50,000 each for using powered mechanical equipment
not in accordance with the conditions of a construction noise
permit and for carrying out prescribed construction works
not in accordance with the conditions of a construction noise
permit.
Another
company was fined $50,000 for using powered mechanical equipment
not in accordance with the conditions of a construction noise
permit.
