convicted pollution cases in April
A total
of 84 convictions were recorded in April for breaching anti-pollution
legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.
Among them,
27 were convictions made under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance,
23 under the Noise Control Ordinance, 22 under the Waste Disposal
Ordinance and 12 under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.
The heaviest fine in April was $65,000.
A company was fined $65,000 for using
powered mechanical equipment not in accordance with the conditions
of a construction noise permit.
