Green seminar for construction industry
Some 150 representatives
of the construction industry today (July 12) attended a seminar
organised by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the
Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) to introduce training
tools for environmental protection.
Speaking at
the seminar, the Acting Deputy Director of Environmental Protection,
Dr Mike Chiu, said: "The production of the training tools is part
of the partnership programme formed with the construction industry."
The EPD, the
HKCA, the Construction Industry Training Authority and the Hong
Kong Institute of Vocational Education jointly produce the tools.
They include:
a) A pocket
handbook containing useful green tips for quick reference by frontline
construction workers;
b) A 'Train-the-Trainer'
compliance assistance CD-ROM package for construction companies;
c) A tailor-made
course for site foremen on environmental legislation requirements;
and
d) A video
on good construction dust minimisation practices.
Dr Chiu noted
that the partnership programme aims to minimise environmental nuisances
and public complaints, improve environmental conditions on construction
sites, reduce operating costs of the industry and enhance its image.
Also speaking
at the seminar, the Legislative Council member, Mr Abraham Shek
Lai-him, welcomed the partnership programme and the synergy created.
Technical advice
and the training tools can be obtained at any of the six local control
offices of the EPD. Enquiries can be made by phone at 2158 5757
