64 convicted pollution cases in June
A total of
64 convictions were recorded in June for breaching anti-pollution
legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.
Among them,
22 under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, 21 were convictions made
under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 14 under the Noise Control
Ordinance, and seven under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.
The heaviest
fine in June was $65,000.
A company was
fined $65,000 for contravening the provisions of a licence issued
under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance by discharging wastewater
exceeding the permitted upper limit.
