83 convicted pollution cases in July
A total of
83 convictions were recorded in July for breaching anti-pollution
legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.
Among them,
31 were convictions made under the Noise Control Ordinance, 26 under
the Waste Disposal Ordinance, 17 made under the Air Pollution Control
Ordinance, and nine under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.
The heaviest
fine in July was $80,000.
A company was
fined $80,000 twice for contravening the provisions of a licence
issued under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance by discharging
wastewater exceeding the limit set in the licence.
