Tenders
invited for supplying and installing particulate removal devices
The Environmental
Protection Department (EPD) today (October 18) published in the
Government Gazette a tender notice for the supply and installation
of particulate removal devices for cross-boundary old heavy diesel
vehicles.
The Acting Principal
Environmental Protection Officer, Mr Ha Kong, said the Government
will subsidise the retrofitting of particulate removal devices to
diesel vehicles weighing more than four tonnes and first-registered
before the Euro vehicle emission standards were introduced to Hong
Kong in April 1995.
"It is part
of the Government's comprehensive vehicle emission control strategy
to reduce air pollution," he noted.
Of the some
41 000 eligible vehicles, about 10 000 are running between Hong
Kong and the Mainland.
"Particulate
removal devices for cross-boundary old heavy diesel vehicles must
be capable of removing at least 25 per cent of the particulates
from the exhaust.
"The deadline
for tender submission is 12 noon on February 7, 2003," Mr Ha said.
Tender documents
and further information are available at the Motor Vehicle Emissions
Group of the EPD at Room 4518, 45th floor, Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester
Road, Wan Chai.
Enquiries can
be made by phone at 2594 6422 or fax on 2824 9361.
Another tender
exercise for supplying and installing particulate removal devices
on eligible heavy diesel vehicles running only within the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region started in June.
"An international
expert panel is evaluating the tenders received and we expect the
retrofit programme for vehicles running only locally to start by
the end of this year," Mr Ha noted.
