and California sign MOU on air quality management
The Director of Environmental
Protection, Mr Rob Law, and the Chairman of the California Air Resources
Board (CARB), Dr Alan Lloyd, today (December 18) signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) on collaboration between the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region and California on air quality management.
"The MOU enhances cooperation
between the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the CARB
in the effort to safeguard the air environment by effective air
quality management and control," a spokesman for the EPD said.
"Both the EPD and the
CARB will benefit from strengthened collaboration between them."
Under the MOU, both parties
will exchange information, share experience and conduct joint projects
on air management practices and pollution control technologies.
Specific areas of interest include:
- motor vehicle emission
standards and control technology
- alternative fuels
for vehicles
- ambient air quality
monitoring
- strategies of controlling
air pollution
- toxic air pollutants
- ozone depleting substances
- emission inventory
and forecast
- greenhouse gases
- volatile organic compounds
- air quality modelling
"The MOU came into effect
immediately and will remain valid for five years," the spokesman
added.
