Thirty-four
pollution convictions recorded in March
A total of 34 convictions were recorded in March
2003 for breaching anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental
Protection Department.
Among them, 12 were convictions made under the Air
Pollution Control Ordinance, nine under the Noise Control Ordinance,
seven under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, and six under the Water
Pollution Control Ordinance.
The heaviest fine in March was $100,000, assessed
against a company using powered mechanical equipment not in accordance
with the conditions of a construction noise permit.
