Trial
recovery of mooncake containers to boost environmental awareness
The
Environmental Protection Department, the Hong Kong Federation
of Restaurants and Related Trades, and the Association of
Restaurant Managers are organising a trial recovery programme
for mooncake containers to raise public awareness about waste
recycling.
The
Acting Assistant Director of Environmental Protection (Local
Control), Mr KF Tang, said the trial programme was part of
the department's ongoing partnership programme with the restaurant
trade.
"Collection
booths will be set up at 14
popular shopping centres
in various districts for collection of mooncake containers,"
he said. "Both paper and tin containers are acceptable as
long as they are clean and tidy."
The
public can take their mooncake containers to the booths from
11am to 8pm on September 12, 13, 14, 20 and 21.
"As
an incentive, a coupon will be given to every member of the
public who hands in a paper or tin mooncake container at the
booths. The coupon can be used at designated restaurant and
food outlets.
"They
can get concessions such as a 10% discount or free desserts,
depending on the concession offered by each participating
restaurant. The coupon is valid up to September 30," Mr Tang
said.
Details
of the trial recovery programme can be found on the Environmental
Protection Department's website at www.epd.gov.hk
and the Green Restaurant Website at www.greenrestaurant-hk.org.
Enquiries
can be made by calling the department's Customer Service Centre
at 2838 3111 or the Green Restaurant Hotline at 2784 6638.
