Proposed
sewerage works in Cheung Chau old town approved
The Chief Executive in Council has authorised the stage 2 sewerage
works in the Cheung Chau old town with modification as stated in
a notice published in the Gazette today (January 16).
A spokesman for the Environmental
Protection Department said: "A total of 3 475 metres of sewers will
be constructed in the Stage 2 works by the Territory Development
Department.
"Sewage from the central
area of Cheung Chau will be collected and conveyed to the Cheung
Chau Sewage Treatment Works for treatment and disposal."
The works are scheduled
to commence in July 2004 for completion in August 2007.
The modification involves
a change in the sewer alignment and the associated works area on
Chung Hing Back Street near Tai Tsoi Yuen Road.
The stage 2 sewerage
works are part of the infrastructure improvement programme for the
Cheung Chau old town, which includes the gradual implementation
of roads, drainage and sewerage works.
"The stage 2 sewerage
works will be carried out in conjunction with the related road scheme
which has also been approved by the Chief Executive in Council,"
the spokesman noted.
