Green awareness of vehicle repair trade enhanced
Awards were presented today (May 15) to winners of the first Green
Garage Election in Hong Kong to recognise their efforts to adopt
environmentally responsible practices.
They were among some 160 garages who participated in the election
organised by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the
Hong Kong Vehicle Repair Merchants Association (HKVRMA) and the
Environmental Vehicle Repairers Association (EVRA) for small and
medium-sized garages.
Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, the Assistant Director
of Environmental Protection, Dr Mike Chiu, said the Green Garage
Election was held under a partnership programme between the EPD
and the vehicle repair trade.
Dr Chiu encouraged members of the public to patronise garages with
environmental measures to show their support for environmental protection.
A panel of adjudicators assessed the participating garages in the
areas of air pollution control; waste and water management; and
green performance and housekeeping between March and April.
The panel of adjudicators comprised representatives from the Hong
Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Vocation Training
Council (VTC), the Institute of the Motor Industry Hong Kong, the
Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the Hong Kong Automobile
Association, the HKVRMA, the EVRA and the EPD.
The list of winning garages
has been uploaded onto the EPD website at www.epd.gov.hk and the
Green Garage website
at www.greengarage.com.hk.
To facilitate the vehicle repair trade to comply with environmental
requirements and participate in the election, the EPD has published
a comprehensive guidebook on green vehicle repairing practices and
a summary of the requirements of environmental laws.

Engineering and the VTC's Automobile Industry Training Centre were
