Press Release
Tenders
invited for supplying and installing particulate removal devices
The Environmental Protection
Department (EPD) today (September 17) published in the Government
Gazette a tender notice on the supply and installation of particulate
removal devices for pre-Euro emission design (pre-Euro) diesel heavy
vehicles which need to undertake long idling duties to operate their
on-board equipment such as concrete mixers and cranes.
The Acting Principal
Environmental Protection Officer, Mr Chau Chi-ming, said the programme
was part of the Government's initiative to reduce vehicle emissions.
There are some 3 500 long-idling diesel heavy vehicles weighing
more than four tonnes and first-registered before April 1995 in
Hong Kong.
"These vehicles
are divided into three groups according to their engine size. Separate
tenders are being invited for each group of the vehicles,"
Mr Chau said.
These devices must be
capable of removing at least 35 per cent of the particulates from
the exhaust.
"The installation
programme will start around May 2005 and to be completed by December
2005," Mr Chau noted.
Tender documents and
further information are available from the Air Management Group
of the EPD at Room 4518, 45th floor, Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester
Road, Wan Chai.
The deadline for tender
submission is noon on January 14, 2005. Enquiries can be made by
phone at 2824 4775 or fax on 2824 9361.
The EPD has also arranged
two retrofit programmes for pre-Euro diesel heavy vehicles which
do not need to perform long idling duties. The one for non cross
boundary vehicles already ended on June 30 this year while the one
for cross boundary vehicles will end on December 31 this year.
