PSE/DEP and ACE to visit Regional Air Monitoring Network
The Permanent Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works (Environment), Mr K K Kwok, and members of the Advisory Council on the Environment (ACE) will leave for Guangdong to see the operation of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) Regional Air Monitoring Network on November 23.
The visiting group will depart from China-HK City Pier early in the morning for Nansha Gang. On arrival, they will proceed to the roof-top of Panyu Wanqingsha Secondary School where one of the 16 monitoring stations is located.
In the afternoon, the group will proceed to the Office of Guangdong Province Environmental Protection Monitoring Centre in Guangzhou City where they will see how the Central Data Management and Reporting Centre of the PRD Regional Air Monitoring Network and the Quality Assurance Laboratory operate.
Officials from the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Guangdong Province will brief the group on how the monitoring stations operate and the progress of the preparations for reporting to the public the Regional Air Quality Index of the PRD region on a daily basis.
The PRD Regional Air Monitoring Network is set up in accordance with the PRD Regional Air Quality Management Plan agreed by both sides in 2003. It comprises 16 monitoring stations, 13 of which are in the PRD region and three in Hong Kong.
