25 pollution convictions in May
Twenty-five convictions were recorded last month (May) for breaches of anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Enviromental Protection Department.
Ten of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, six under the Noise Control Ordinance, five under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, three under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance and one under the Ozone Layer Protection Ordinance.
The heaviest fine in May was $120,000, assessed against a company used powered mechanical equipment without a valid construction noise permit.
