EcoPark construction contract awarded
The Acting Director of Environmental Protection, Dr Michael Chiu Tak-lun, today (July 7) signed a $257 million contract on behalf of the Government with Kaden Construction Limited for the construction of EcoPark in Tuen Mun Area 38.
Speaking after the contract signing ceremony, Dr Chiu said it signified another milestone in realising the EcoPark project which would be carried out in two phases.
"Our target is to make available the land in Phase I for occupation by the environmental and recycling industries by end 2006. The entire construction project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2009," he said.
The 20-hectare EcoPark is being established to provide long term land at affordable costs to the environmental and recycling industries. This can encourage the industries to invest in more advanced and value-added recycling processes to help resolve our waste problem.
The contractor is required to construct the basic infrastructure for the EcoPark. The works comprise site formation, construction of internal roads, drains and sewers, utilities, an administration building, landscaping and ancillary facilities.
