EPD opens new centre to assist business trades
The Environmental Protection Department announced today (September 20) the opening of a dedicated one-stop assistance centre where the business trades could obtain updated information and advice on environmental compliance, pollution prevention and environmental management.
The Compliance Assistance Centre - conveniently located on 28/F, Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai - provides easily accessible platform for close interaction between the department and the business trades.
"Realising the many environmental benefits gained through establishing the partnership programmes with major trades in the past, the department has further strengthened its efforts to proactively reach out to assist all business trades in moving towards an environmentally sustainable business," a spokesman for the department said.
The department has established partnership programmes with the construction, restaurant, vehicle repair workshop and property management trades.
"We aim to promote environmental compliance by providing operators with useful information, pointing them in the right direction and resolving pollution problems," he said.
"Also, we hope to encourage our business partners to further enhance their performance by implementing ISO 14001 EMS, producing environmental performance reports, carrying out environmental audit and adopting green practices with a view to going beyond compliance, which is a growing demand from the public as well as a global trend."
The Compliance Assistance Centre offers a wide range of services including providing advice on environmental regulatory requirements and on how to tackle common pollution problems; offering updated compliance guides, green practices and environmental management tools e.g. ISO 14001 EMS; and keeping lists of environmental consultants and contractors on specific pollution problems.
A dedicated website has been specially set up for the centre at www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/cac/index.html. Members of the public and all business trades are welcome to visit the centre in person or call the department's hotline at 2838 3111 for information.
