Proposed sewerage works in Sham Tseng, Tsing Lung Tau and Ting Kau approved
The Chief Executive-in-Council had authorised the schemes for Sham Tseng Sewerage Stage 3 and Ting Kau Sewerage Stage 2, a spokesman for the Environmental Protection Department said today (October 27).
The works for Sham Tseng scheme involve constructing about 5.5 kilometres of sewers and a new sewage pumping station while those for Ting Kau comprise 1.6 kilometres of sewers, some 100 metres of twin pressurised mains and a new sewage pumping station.
"The two sewerage schemes will effectively convey sewage collected from Sham Tseng, Tsing Lung Tau, Ting Kau and adjacent areas to Sham Tseng Sewage Treatment Works for proper treatment and disposal," the spokesman said.
"They will provide a public sewerage system for sewage collection and help reduce pollution of the coastal area and the Tsuen Wan beaches e.g. Ting Kau beach, and improve the sanitary condition of the area," he said.
Construction works of the two projects, to be carried out by the Drainage Services Department, are scheduled to start in February, 2007, and will take about 35 months to complete.
Details of the Sham Tseng Sewerage Scheme were published in the Government Gazette on November 25 and December 2 last year as well as May 4 and 12 this year, while those for the Ting Kau Sewerage Scheme were published in the Government Gazette on November 25 and December 2 last year.
Approval for the two sewerage schemes was gazetted today.
