Tenancies of Batch 2 lots in EcoPark Phase I awarded

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (December 21) awarded two tenancies of the Batch 2 lots in EcoPark Phase I in Tuen Mun Area 38 to Li Tong Group and Champway Technology Limited.

Under the respective agreements, the tenants will set up the necessary plant and equipment to process locally collected waste electrical and electronic equipment and waste cooking oil into marketable products over a 10-year tenancy period.

"The EcoPark is one of the Government's key initiatives in supporting the local environmental industry as stipulated in the document 'A Policy Framework for the Management of Municipal Solid Waste (2005-2014)',” an EPD spokeman said.

"The EcoPark provides long-term land at affordable rent and equipped with ready land and marine access, electrical and water supplies, sewerage and telecommunication connections, to facilitate and encourage the environmental industry to invest in advanced and cost-effective technologies to process local recyclable materials.

"By encouraging and promoting the re-use, recovery and recycling of our waste resources and returning them back to the consumption loop, the EcoPark will help develop the local recycling industry," the spokesman said.

"No conforming bid was received for the third lot specified for the recycling of plastic.

"As regards the latest development of Batch 1 tenancies awarded in April, the department recently terminated the tenancy with a plastic recycler because of its failure to submit the performance bond required in the tenancy agreement. Retendering of this site together with the remaining Batch 2 lot will be arranged shortly," the spokesman said.

More details on the EcoPark can be found at the website www.epd.gov.hk/epd/ecopark.
