Thirty-eight pollution convictions in January
Thirty-eight convictions were recorded last month (January) for breaches of anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.
Eighteen of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 17 under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, two under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance, and one under the Noise Control Ordinance.
The heaviest fine in January was $30,000, assessed respectively against two companies that imported controlled waste without a permit.
Two persons who exported controlled waste without a permit were sentenced to two months’ imprisonment.
